“Once Upon a Time”, is how great stories begin and this is a tale of four owners brought together with a common passion. This is not a tale of King Kong, nor is it a tale of a dragon slayer but a tale of Godzilla, four to be exact, a term that many know describes the Nissan GTR.

Living in the small northern Alberta community of Cold Lake, sights usually include classic and modern muscle cars, family commuters, or modified trucks. However, due to Cold Lake being the home of a military base, the Japanese automotive scene continues to grow with the injection of younger owners that enjoy ownership of such brands as Nissan, Toyota, Mazda and Honda.

When I was propositioned for a session with the grey R32 GTR, it had been a few years since the well known black R32 (Darkhearted) had left the community. A time was set and four generations came together in one location for a calm summer sunset and of course car talk with friends.

An R32 GTR, R33 GTR, R34 GTT with a widebody, and lastly an R35 GTR rolled in and took their positions for a few captures. This is an older set and at the time of print, the R32 has now had a refresh, the GTT has moved out of town, the R33 is now orange with some more modifications, and the R35 still frequents the streets during the summer months.

While each generation looks different, the dual rear tail lights help to identify them as a Nissan Skyline. Under the hoods of the R32 and R33, they both shared the same RB26DETT motor set that were modified to their liking for power with the R34 using an RB25DET for a powerplant. As the night wound down, the owners lined up for one last shot with all four lined up for a classic sunset capture and some panning to show them in motion.

Opportunities like this do not occur often as they are challenging to orchestrate due to work schedules and of course having all 4 generations being in the same community. To be certain though that in this small Alberta town, the import scene is still alive and well.
Until next time.
